Choosing your own insurer for a French mortgage as a non-resident (delegation)
You do not have to take the bank’s insurance if another contract offers equivalent cover. For non-residents, this is often the way forward.
Delegation means choosing an outside insurance contract instead of the bank’s, with cover equivalent to what the bank requires. For non-residents, it is often the solution when the bank cannot insure.
What is delegation?
When you take a mortgage, the bank offers its group insurance. You may choose another insurer as long as its cover is equivalent to what the bank requires.
Why it matters for non-residents
Many insurers, including bank-linked ones, do not accept borrowers living abroad. Delegation lets us look elsewhere for a contract accepted for a non-resident, then present it to the bank.
The steps
- Ask the bank for its minimum cover
- We look for a suitable contract
- We file it with the bank
- The bank checks equivalence and must justify any refusal
How it works
- You contact us by phone, WhatsApp, e-mail or at the agency: free analysis, no commitment.
- You send your documents: loan offer, current insurance contract (if any), amortization schedule, ID or passport.
- We study your situation and look for solutions with the insurers we can offer.
- You choose, and we handle the steps with your bank.
Frequently asked questions
Can the bank refuse my own insurer?
Only if the cover is not equivalent, and it must justify its decision.
Is it cheaper?
Not always. We compare, without promising savings.
